We were invited to have lunch with them, which we wouldn’t want to say no to since we saw and smell the food that Sandra’s mom had been making all morning long. We’re convinced that Sandra’s mom was half human and half machine, the latter half primarily responsible for being able to create a lot of good food in short amount of time. We were fortunate to be there.
Sandra’s family was loud, but not in an obnoxious way. They liked to talk a lot. There seemed to be some stories to tell, some news to share, some events to discuss, and much more. It was quite enjoyable to listen to them, even though I could not understand anything at all. They were speaking mostly in German, though some were spoken in Portuguese. Some of them turn to us and asked questions, that time in English. It was mostly about our European experience. We said that this was our honeymoon trip, and especially for me it was my first trip in Germany. They talked about how they wanted to move to Portugal, perhaps in the next year or two, to follow their parents who will be moving this summer. Perhaps they wanted to move so they can always have Sunday lunches and gatherings. It would be missed a lot. I felt that I will miss it, so I could only imagine how they feel. After a few more talks over ice cream dessert, we took some photos, gathered our laundry, packed the last remaining items, and we were off to the central station. We said our goodbyes, thanks, and wished them farewell, ‘till we meet again.
We made it to the central station, took the next best time to board the train, went around and bought snacks and drinks, and took some pictures. We boarded the train and were on our way to Berlin. Goodbye Hamburg! Till next visit!
